Gilks on debut: It kind of went all right didn't it?
Gilks, making his first start at the DW following his January arrival from Rangers, made an immediate impression on the Latics fans by saving Jordan Hugill’s ninth-minute penalty - and also the rebound from point-blank range.
“Yep, it kind of went all right didn’t it?” smiled Gilks.
“As a goalkeeper, you save some penalties, you let some in.
“It’s just one of those things, you assess the situation, you try and put yourself in the mind of the kicker, and thankfully I read his mind.

“As a debut, though, I’ll take that.”
Gilks will definitely keep his place for tomorrow night’s trip to QPR, with Jussi Jaaskelainen now joining Jakob Haugaard on the sidelines after aggravating a foot problem, which led to a first appearance on the bench for youngster Theo Roberts.
“Jussi’s been struggling a little bit with an injury, which he’s had for a while,” said Joyce. “He’s had a foot injury, going back a few weeks, even before we brought Jakob in.”
