Hide AdWigan Council has now announced that the majority of the work has been completed.
A council spokesman said: "We are pleased to announce that the Saddle junction works are complete aside from some minor finishes that will be revisited early 2019 due to weather circumstances over the last week. The Wallgate works will also be completed in the New Year.
"We would like to thank all motorists and local businesses for their co-operation and patience throughout this project and look forward to the lanes being used over the coming months, specifically during spring and summer.
"The cycle lanes will link with the Robin Park Road work completed earlier this year and is part of a Transport for Greater Manchester project called Cycle Cities. It has been funded by the Department for Transport. Olympic medallist Chris Boardman has fronted the project across the region and is pleased with our progress."
