Wigan Athletic boss hated behind-closed-doors experience

Paul Cook enjoyed the performance and result at Huddersfield - but not the overall experience

"It was terrible...terrible...totally unenjoyable, if I'm being truthful."

Good job for Paul Cook then that his Wigan Athletic side cruised to a comfortable win at Huddersfield, otherwise his mood would have been even worse.

However, happy as he was with the performance of his players, there was little else about the behind-closed-doors experience that Cook appreciated.

"Without a crowd, you don't enjoy it at all, it's nothing like a matchday experience," he mused.

"It's going to be very difficult for everyone, but we can't do anything about it, that's life.

"It's so surreal, it's so strange, it's untrue."

With no crowd noise, there is of course an additional problem for Cook, one of the EFL's more colourful characters.

"The main thing was making sure I didn't swear too much!" he laughed.

"With no background noise I could get myself into trouble!

"Of course we need to show mutual respect, but it's also important we try and keep that competitive edge in the game, because that's what makes football the game we all love."
