Gallery: Wigan Borough Dance Festival showcases talents of hundreds of youngsters

More than 1,500 talented youngsters proved they had all the right moves as they took part in the seventh Wigan Borough Dance Festival.

The four-day celebration at The Edge Arena has become a cornerstone of the Wigan cultural calendar, drawing together young people and their families to celebrate the joy of movement and artistic expression.

It was a showcase of local talent, featuring 65 primary schools, high schools and dance groups, with 1,590 children and young people from across Wigan and Greater Manchester taking part.

Among the highlights were performances by professional dance companies, including internationally acclaimed Company Chameleon and the homegrown talent of Wigan-based WN Dance Company.

Amy Hodgson, festival producer and director of WigLe Dance CIC, said: “We were thrilled to welcome participants and spectators alike to the Wigan Borough Dance Festival 2024.

“This year’s festival was a celebration of the richness and diversity of dance in our community. It was a testament to the dedication and passion of all those involved, from the talented young dancers to the teachers and the WigLe Dance staff who made this event possible. WBDF is now recognised as one of the biggest youth dance festivals in the country and we’re really proud of our achievements.”

In addition to the main performances, young people enjoyed workshops, masterclasses and other interactive activities designed to inspire the next generation of dancers.
