Olympian Jenny Meadows unveils the Olympic Torch route through Wigan Picture Paul Simpson 16th March 2012

THE route of the Olympic torch through the borough and the names of those who will carry it have been officially revealed this week.

The Olympic Torch in Wigan on will travel through Lowton, Golborne, Abram, Ince, Wigan town centre and Hindley on Thursday, May 31.

Torchbearer Cameron Foster has spoken of his pride after it was announced that he would carry the iconic symbol through Hindley where he lives.

The 16-year-old former Westleigh High School student said: “It’s such an honour and I’m very proud indeed. I can’t wait for the torch to come now, it’s going to be such a wonderful occasion and I hope that lots of people come out to show their support.”

Kirsty Gallacher will also carry the torch in the area.
