A TEENAGER has died after he was hit by a train.
Adam Smith was fatally injured in a collision on the line between Hag Fold and Daisy Hill stations.
An inquest into the death of the Atherton 19-year-old was opened at Bolton Coroner’s Court on Tuesday.
A spokesman for the British Transport Police said that officers were called to the railway line at 1.45pm on Saturday May 24 after receiving a report that a young man had been struck by the 114 Manchester to Victoria passenger service.
Greater Manchester Police officers and paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service also attended but there was nothing they could do to save Mr Smith and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family have since formally identified the young man’s body.
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and are preparing a report for the coroner.
The inquest was adjourned to a date yet to be fixed pending further inquiries.
