Step on board to be sun safe

A HEALTH bus will be in Leigh town centre to promote summer sun safety.

Macmillan Cancer Support’s mobile information team will be in the loading bay outside McDonalds, in Bradshawgate, Leigh, today (Thursday), from 10am until 4pm, when visitors can find out more about being sun safe.

The team, on board a bright green bus, welcome anyone with a question or concern about cancer, to step on board for a confidential chat, or just to pick up some information leaflets.

Debbie Smith, Macmillan Cancer information and support specialists, said: “With all the rain we’ve had over the last few weeks you probably think that sun awareness is the last thing you need to worry about. But did you know that you can still burn on an overcast day.

“Therefore it is important to apply sunscreen, wear a wide brimmed sun hat that shades your neck, face and ears and stay in the shade between 11am-3pm.

“You should also cover up and wear sunglasses.

“Remember that the sun damage received before the age of 30, when the skin is more sensitive, is most dangerous.

“So it is really important to make sure your kids know and practice sun safety.”
