BUSINESS and pleasure mixed as pupils sampled life in the big wide world. Industry leaders met Year 11 pupils from Leigh’s Bedford High School to offer guidance on what is needed to secure a job.

They were at Leigh Sports Village for an employability skills day which saw them take part in interviews and workshops led by local successful businesspeople.

Speakers from employers including bank HSBC, Sellafield nuclear fuels, the RAF and NHS as well as local businesses such as bakery Waterfield’s and Stephensons Solicitors gave expert advice to help the teenagers consider their next move after secondary school.

Workshops included guidance on applications, preparing for interview and information on routes into higher education and careers including the media, law, teaching and retail. The pupils sampled cuisines from around the world and year seven explored the language and culture of Spain before the Bedford community came together for a mass zumba dance session.
