A MAN is fighting for his life after being stabbed several times in Hindley.

The 59-year-old man was coming out of a house on Worcester Avenue at around 9.55am on Sunday morning when he was approached by two men who immediately stabbed him multiple times.

After demanding the keys to his white Mercedes C220 the two attackers fled down Worcester Avenue without the car keys.

It is believed they ran down a ginnel towards Smithwood Avenue.

The victim has been taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment for stab wounds and his condition is described as very serious.

The two men are described as white, one was wearing a pale pink/red top with his face covered and the other wore a pale blue top with stripes down the sleeves.

Detective Inspector Graham Atherton from Wigan CID, said: “This was a horrendous attack on a defenceless man which has left him fighting for his life in hospital.

“These two men approached him on the doorstep and before they demanded his car keys they stabbed him multiple times and left him for dead.

“I am sure local residents will be shocked and angered by what has happened, but I want to try to reassure them that we have a team of experienced detectives working on the investigation and determined to find the men responsible.

“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the attack or saw men matching these descriptions in the area to contact me as soon as possible, you information could be vital to our investigation.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 5307 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
