Let’s turn Leigh yellow

STAFF at Leigh’s local Marie Curie Fundraising office held a Wear Yellow To Work day, and are hoping to inspire other businesses in the area to do the same.

Fundraising staff really got into the spirit things and drank tea from yellow mugs, baked lemon cake and ate cheese sandwiches for lunch.

Michelle Bate, a Community fundraiser said: “It was so easy to organise. I sent an email to the office to let them know about Wear Yellow To Work Day, we all dug out anything yellow we could find, and paid £2 each to take part.

“One colleague forgot so we fined her the £2 donation, and still raised money from her not taking part!”

Marie Curie’s official Wear Something Yellow To Work Day is Friday March 2, right at the start of the Marie Curie Great Daffodil Appeal, the charity’s flagship fundraising appeal.

But it doesn’t matter if you can only hold your yellow day on an earlier or later date.

All money raised as part of the Great Daffodil appeal will help Marie Curie Nurses to provide more free care to local terminally ill people in their own homes - our Safe Hands Appeal is aiming to raise £83,000.

If you want to register your workplace, head to www.mariecurie.or.uk/wearyellow and you will receive a free fundraising pack to give you some inspirational fundraising ideas for your workplace.

Donating your time to the appeal will allow Marie Curie nurses to provide more free care to people with terminal cancer and other illnesses in their own homes.

Research shows around 65 per cent of people would like to die at home if they had a terminal illness, and since 2004 the charity has been campaigning for more patients to have that choice.

To get help from the Marie Curie Nursing Service, talk to your GP, district nurse or discharge nurse. For more information, visit www.mariecurie.org.uk or call 0800 716 146.
