TWO people have been charged after a man was stabbed in Hindley.

Lee James Henry Daniels and Kieran David Wright, both 26 and of Castleway, Hindley are charged with wounding with intent, attempt robbery, burglary and possession of an offensive weapon.

They were due before Wigan and Leigh magistrates this morning.

At about 9.55am last Sunday, the 59-year-old victim, named locally as Stephen Bennett, was just leaving a relative’s home on Worcester Avenue when he was attacked.

He was stabbed 13 times and left with serious injuries to his arms and face.

The victim continues to make good progress as he recovers.

Det Insp Graham Atherton said: “Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, we have now charged two individuals with section 18 wounding, attempt robbery, burglary and possession of an offensive weapon.

“I know people in the community will continue to have questions but it is important we let the legal process take its natural course and not speculate.

“What I would say is that we are continuing to appeal to anyone with information about this attack to come forward, and we have not ruled out making further arrests of those who may have been involved in any aspect of this investigation.”

“The family of the victim would like to thank the community for their help & support”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 5307 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111
