Hammer raid on store
MONEY and cigarettes were stolen during a robbery in Atherton.
Three men walked into the the Co-op store on Gadfield Grove, Atherton, at 9.25pm on Monday, January 23. Police have just released details of the crime in a bid to track down witnesses.
One of the raiders was carrying a hammer and the three men demanded two staff members lay on the floor before they put a large amount of cigarettes in bed sheets.
Money was taken from the tills and all three left in a grey Ford Focus with the registration X668. The number plates and been stolen from the Leigh area the previous night. No-one was hurt.
The man holding a hammer is described as 6ft tall, medium build and spoke with a local accent. All three were wearing dark clothing, dark trainers and had their faces covered.
