Gloves worn as weapon

Crime story

Crime story

A BOUNCER has admitted wearing ‘slap mitts’ at a night club in Leigh.

Kym Chave, 27, pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon in public when he appeared at Wigan Magistrates’ Court.

Nicola Ormerod, prosecuting, said that on September 9 last year, Chave was on duty at Vogue, in King Street, when he was involved in an altercation and he put on reinforced gloves.

He was then assaulted as Michael Warburton threw a bottle and a metal drinks tray, knocking him unconscious.

Colin Rawson, defending, said: “There was no suggestion he used the gloves. They were there as part of security.”

Chave, of St John’s Green, Leyland, will appear before magistrates following a probation report on May 14.

Warburton was sentenced to a 12-month community order and a £60 victim surcharge at Liverpool Crown Court in March, after being charged with actual bodily harm.
