FIREFIGHTERS were called into action when a Wigan man got his head stuck in the metal railings on his bed.

The bizarre incident happened at a house in George Street, Hindley, at 1.30am on Thursday, after a man thought to be in his 60s had consumed alcohol and lodged his head between wrought iron bed railings.

Crews used a hammer to prize the railings apart.

The man was uninjured.

John Thompson, crew manager at Hindley Fire Service, said: “The man had been drinking and was lying on his bed and his head went through the middle of the two railings.”
