The damage caused by a drink driver in Astley

A BOOZED-up man was arrested for being twice over the legal limit during a major clampdown on World Cup drink-drivers.

The driver was caught after he smashed his Vauxhall Corsa into three parked cars in Manchester Road, Astley, before the England match on Saturday night. He told officers he had been on the way to a chippy.

He was arrested for failing to provide a sample of breath and was take to the police station where a blood sample showed he was twice the legal limit.
