Don’t miss free TV licence

PENSIONERS are being reminded that they are entitled to watch all their favourite TV shows for free once they turn 75.

TV Licensing is urging anyone aged over 75 in Leigh who is currently still paying the annual fee for their freeview TV to apply for a free licence.

Figures released by the Office of National Statistics show more than 2,500 Leythers already have free TV licences, and with more than 387,100 people becoming eligible in England each year TV Licencing is keen to see that everyone aged over 75 gets the free licence to which they are entitled.

Anyone aged 74 or over can begin planning for the concession, which covers their main address, immediately by applying for a short-term licence which will last between one and 11 months.

Janet Morrison, Chief Executive of Independent Age, said: “We know from experience just how much many older people value their TVs. For many, television is a great source of information and fun, but for those who find it difficult to get out and about due to ill health or mobility problems, it can also be a much-needed source of company.

“Many older people live on very limited incomes, so the free television licence that is available to people aged 75 and over is a really valued concession. We urge all people over 75 to remember to apply for their free TV licence“.

Eligible people can register online at www.tvlicensing.co.uk/over75 or by calling 0300 790 6073. The free licence will cover all the equipment in the property, meaning family or carers living in the same home can also benefit.

Customers with a free TV Licence are reminded to contact TV Licensing if there is a change to their name, address or telephone details.
