POLICE are appealing for information after a card reading device was placed on a cash machine in Lowton.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to the Co-operative Food store, on Church Lane, on Saturday evening by a woman who had placed her card in the machine and became suspicious when nothing had happened after a few minutes.

When police arrived at the scene they found the cash machine had been tampered with, and removed a device from the front of the ATM.

Attempts were made to contact members of staff, but as the Co-op was closed this was unsuccessful.

The officers’ investigation at the scene did not suggest any money had been taken, and the bank which owns the machine has been informed. No other incidents have been reported to police.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

People who used the cash machine over the weekend and are concerned about their card are being advised to speak to their bank.

Anyone with any information about the incident should call police on 101.
