A 12-year-old girl is in a serious condition in hospital after a road collision in Wigan.

Greater Manchester Police say officers were called to Caroline Street, off Wallgate, shortly after 6.45pm on Friday evening to reports a youngster had been injured in the collision with a car.

The girl was taken to hospital by paramedics with "serious injuries" and remains in a serious condition, a statement added.

Witnesses have said several emergency crews were at the scene and road closures were in place in the immediate aftermath.

A spokesman for GMP added that no arrests have been made in relation to the incident.

A force statement said: "Officers were called just after 6.45pm to Caroline Street, Wigan to reports of a collision between a car and a 12-year-old girl.

"The girl was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries and remains there in a serious condition."
