Young people, councillors and youth workers at the Creepy Crafts event at Golborne Library

Halloween creepy crafts attracted young people to Golborne library this week.

Youngsters from the area came in their best fancy dress costumes to take part in some creepy crafts and festive fun, while also being given information on staying safe this Halloween and Bonfire Night.

The activities were organised by youth workers from Wigan Council’s Voice and Engagement Team and Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust staff from Golborne Library.

Local councillors Yvonne Klieve and Stuart Keane also attended to show their support.

The event supported Operation Treacle which sees agencies across the borough coming together to promote a safe and happy Halloween and Bonfire Night for all.

Voice and Engagement Team youth worker Karen Freeman said: “Today has been about having fun but we have chatted with all the young people about staying safe, not trick or treating on their own and which houses to call at.

“We’ve also chatted to their parents and given them information on firework safety and organised bonfires.”

Police will continue cracking down on anti-social behaviour over the Bonfire Night period, and are warning perpetrators of the possible consequences of being caught including an £80 fine, arrest or a criminal record.

A range of activities, many free, have been organised to help keep youngsters safe, visit www.wigan.gov.uk/safe4autumn and on the Linc Website at www.wlct.org/linconline or report incidents contact the police on 101 or Firestoppers on 0800 923 9999.
