Canine character needed for classic play role
Pudsey the dog
A rather special actor is being hunted by a well-known regional theatre.
The Bolton Octagan is not looking for a leading lady or man - it is on the hunt for Leigh dog owners who would like their canine companion to appear in the John Steinbeck classic ‘Of Mice and Men’ and who may want to get their pet into the acting business - who knows, you may have the next Lassie or Pudsey on your hands!
Octagon Artistic Director, and Director of Of Mice and Men, David Thacker, said: “The dog needs to have a very steady disposition, and may well be an older dog, does not need to be of any particular breed and no acting experience is required, the dog will remain on a leash when on stage and will only appear for a short time in Act 1, simply walking on stage with the actor David Fleeshman, who will be playing the dog’s owner Candy2.
Applicants must be prepared to commit to every performance during the run of the show, including all matinee and evening shows – a total of 33 separate performances from Thursday, January 17 to Saturday, February 16. You must also be available during the weeks commencing January 7 and 14 2013 for occasional rehearsals, dates to be confirmed. All expenses will be paid.
For an application form email info@octagonbolton.co.uk or call 01204 520661. The deadline for all applications to be received is Monday, November 26.
