A BREAKFAST to support a two-year-old with a rare condition has raised more than £500 for research.

Paul and Rebecca Callaghan organised a morning fund-raiser at Frankie and Benny’s Restaurant, in Leigh, on behalf of their daughter, Matilda, who has Sturge Weber Syndrome, which is usually indicated by a birthmark (port wine stain) somewhere on the face.

As a baby, Matilda, had full open chest surgery, her heart rebuilt, and suffered rare congenital conditions of the food pipe.

She now suffers from glaucoma and learning difficulties and has to have physiotherapy every week and surgery every month. As a result, Paul and Rebecca have been busy raising money in Matilda’s name, for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and the Ronald Macdonald House there, Wigan and Leigh Children’s Community Team and for research into the condition.

Paul, 45, of Leigh, said: “We had a really good day at Frankie and Benny’s.

“There were a lot of people there. It was great to think that people have given away their hard-earned cash to such a good cause. Altogether £540 was raised.

“Without charities, I don’t think Matilda would have survived.”
