THE ROPE and Anchor in Atherton is full of life and rumours of its demise couldn't be further from the truth.
Inaccurate information from a trusted source led to us printing the name of the Rope and Anchor on a list of local boozers which have recently bit the dust.

We are more than happy to set the record straight and can report that the place is thriving.

In fact, its fortnightly live music events – showcasing bands from across the region – are packing out the pub.

Landlord Steve Riley, 46, who took over two-and-a-half years ago, said: "We're a proper back street boozer and we get a good crowd in.
"We serve good quality keg beers and a lot of people say we serve the best pint in Atherton.

"There's so much going on down here. We've got the music, our golf society is going strong and we're in the local darts and dominoes league.

"Our new pool team is also doing well and they got off to a flying start in their first game of the season winning 6-1, which I was very pleased about."

Big-hearted Steve also revealed that the pub is heavily involved in fund-raising for charities such as Macmillan and Cancer Research UK, and this year alone they have raised a staggering £4,800.
T
he next band to rock the Rope and Anchor will be Vera Cruz. For more information, ring the pub on 01942 891819.
