THE widow of the much-missed entertainer Roy Castle is coming to Lowton to talk about her Christian faith.
Fiona Castle is the VIP guest at Lowton Civic Hall at 8pm on July 18 as part of British and Irish churches' Hope '08 campaign.
Tony Butterworth, vicar of Christ Church Pennington, Leigh, said: "The theme for Fiona's talk is Time for a Change.
"Fion
a is an amazing woman and a brilliant speaker. She has overcome the tragic death of her husband, TV presenter and entertainer Roy Castle, through her strong Christian faith and is now doing things she would never have dreamt of before, active in all sorts of ways to see the world change for the better!"
Mrs Castle first came to prominence when her husband was diagnosed with lung cancer which the couple believed that Roy, a non-smoker, had contracted the terminal illness by playing his trumpet in smoke-filled clubs and theatres.
After his death 14 years ago, Mrs Castle continued campaigning over the dangers of passive smoking and raising money for lung cancer research.
At the Lowton gathering she is expected to talk about her "God-charged walk that's brought overwhelming peace."
Rev Butterworth said: "She heeds the cries against injustice, writes books, shares her life story, broadcasts on radio and helps raise millions of pounds for cancer campaigns and also for work with the poor and struggling throughout the world.
"Time for a Change is a great theme. Do come along.
"ome with friends and family, perhaps with questions about faith, about life. Fiona is a great example on how life can be different."
Mrs Castle will be speaking at 8pm on July 18 at Lowton Civic Hall, Hesketh Meadow Lane, Lowton. Tickets are £6 or £5 unwaged.
Tickets are available from Jean Waddup in the church office on (01942) 609987 or the vicarage on (01942) 673619 or pay on the door.
