A ZIMBABWEAN band based in Leigh has reached the finals of a battle of the bands competition.
The Heritage Survival Band, whose members all live in Westleigh, has won through to the regional finals of the Live and Unsigned competition.
The seven-piece act, who play everything from Afro-fusion to reggae, roots and blues, are now in with a chance to pick up an investment of £20,000.
They will be competing in the finals at Salford's Willows club on Sunday, March 29 at 12.15pm and still have tickets left for the show.
Norman Muza, 27, said: "We are hoping the people of Leigh will get behind a local band."
Formed in 2002, they play a fusion of Shona mbira music and Afro-jazz, and have recorded an impressive debut album, entitled 'Pasi' meaning 'This World', which features traditional songs re-worked by the band.
It also includes tracks composed by young lead singer-guitarist Zivai Guveya, a former member of Thomas Mapfumo's band.
Band member Paul Kuzinya, 27, added: "We're looking forward to the live stages and it will be a great day out for people.
"The audience vote will influence who goes through to the next round so it would be good to have support from the people of Leigh."
Tickets cost just £6 and are available by calling 07512 793446.
