The rain stopped, the clouds parted and the sun shone as HRH The Queen arrived in Leigh.
As the royal limousine pulled up at the multi-million pound Leigh Sports Village, HM the Queen emerged resplendent in a vivid fuchsia pink to be greeted by the welcoming crowd including students from Wigan and Leigh College on the site..

Scores of people were waiting, some for hours, at the front of the stadium as invited guests and children from local schools were seated inside ready for the flag waving frenzy when the Queen and Prince Philip made their way to the stage on the pitch at the stadium.
Guests included Leigh MP Andy Burnham, his wife and family, Lord Peter Smith and local councillors.

Her Majesty pulled a curtain to reveal a plaque commemorating her official openiing of LSV before emjoying a sumptious meal.
Royal fans who had been disappointed when Her Majesty arrived and entered the stadium immediately were delighted when she took the time to meet them and accept bouquets as she departed the stadium.
