Golborne residents have set up their own youth club - parents and councillors have banded together to provide young people with a venue where they can meet after 20 years without such a facility.
The Youth Club is now taking place every Friday between 6.30pm and 9pm in the Link Centre on Worsley Street, as part of a 16-week trial.

It has come about as an initiative by the newly-formed Golborne Youth and Community Centre which comprises residents and the three ward councillors, husband-and-wife team Mark and Yvonne Klieve, plus Ged Bretherton.

It's first night was a great success, with a big turnout of young people.

And this Friday (March 5) the club is issuing an open invitation to all young people across the communities to come and check out the facilities and events on offer and have their say on the services that they would like to see being delivered in Golborne on their behalf.

For one night only they will be offered free entrance – usually £1– plus free pizza and soft drinks.

Club officials will also be providing a MC competition with prizes and a disco, along with the usual sports and games for all visitors.

The project is in need of more volunteers. Contact Coun Yvonne Klieve for more details on Wigan 275808.
