Staff and youngsters at St Joseph's RC primary school, in Leigh, worked with Wigan Groundwork to design a kitchen garden which was completed in May.

The school gardening club have been busy planting seeds and digging flower beds for the garden, which will provide fruit and vegetables.
Pupils also created a wormery and a compost heap, as well as growing areas for strawberries, tomatoes, cabbages, radishes and beans.

Parents, staff, governors, pupils, the Friends of St Joseph's and local business including Moss Bank nurseries and Bulldog Tools also donated plants and tools.

And the garden was funded by £4,000 from the Royal bank of Scotland's Supergrounds grant and officially opened by Brian Simpson MEP for the North West.

Anne McNally, headteacher, said: "We are extremely grateful to Sue Holt, a parent and employee at Royal Bank of Scotland, for nominating us and are really proud of what we have achieved.
"As for the future we don't intend to stop here.

"We are confident that the success of this project will be a catalyst for future projects in and around our school.
"We are already planning for a Wildlife Meadow and developing the front entrance area of our school."
