POLICE have swooped on two Leigh cannabis farms and discovered 1,000 plants with a street value of more than £200,000.
The dawn raids took place on Friday, at two addresses in the Tyldesley, one on Alma Street and the other on Robinson Street.
Fatima Zhao, 488, of no fixed abode, has been charged with cultivation of cannabis. Yu Chen, 20, also of no fixed abode, has been charged with cultivation of cannabis and abstracting electricity.
Headed by Sgt Dave Johnston, of Atherton police, the raids marked the launch of Operation Ambition, which is expected to last for the next three weeks.
Sgt Johnston said: "We also recovered a large quantity of dried cannabis bush ready and prepared for distribution.
"We believe the house on Alma Street is linked to the second house we raided on Robinson Street.
"If all the plants we found reached full maturity, the yield could have been worth up to £200,000."
Operation Ambition is being run by the Atherton Neighbourhood Policing Team and will concentrate on the Tyldesley and Atherton areas.
Sgt Johnston said: "There will be more raids in the coming weeks but we are very pleased at the outcome so far.
"It has been a major success.
"The purpose of the operation is to clamp down on these areas.
"Part and parcel of this is to remove the drug supply which we believe is linked to other forms of criminal activity."
The Atherton Neighbourhood Policing Team is now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Sgt Johnston said: "We would appreciate any information that local residents can give us with regards to drug dealing or criminal activity in the area.
"If you can help at all, please call us on (0161) 856 7324 and we will take a pro-active approach to deal with it."
