COULD the next X-Factor winner come from Atherton?
Female singer-songwriter Laura White, 21, has made it through to the final 24 of the popular ITV talent show .

Laura wowed judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Danni Minogue and Cheryl Cole with her strong Amy Winehouse-style performance.
She will now go through boot camp with Girls Aloud star Cheryl, who will coach her in the 14 – 24 Girls category with other hopefuls Annastacia Baker, Hannah Bradbeer, Alexandra Burke, Amy Connolly and Diana Vickers.

It hasn't been an easy ride for Laura, as she suffered from a bug before her initial audition, but she still sailed through.
Laura's performance, although cut short by Simon, received four yes verdicts and Simon's accolade of "The best he'd heard in Manchester".
Laura, a student at Fred Longworth High School, St Mary's sixth form and Leigh College, has been singing since she was a little girl and already sings in jazz clubs around the North of England.

She told the X Factor: "I remember being in the playground when I was about six, singing the songs from Sister Act. I said I wanted to sing, and everyone was like, 'Get over it, it's never going to happen.'"
"And I said, 'It is, it is!

"They didn't believe me in high school either, when I said I was going to be a popstar. But I genuinely believe I am going to do it."
Laura is currently studying toward a degree in English but pays her bills by singing with her band.

She also sang before 7,000 people at this year's Haigh Festival and spent six weeks in London last summer filming for E4's School of Performing Arts.

She added: "I've been a jazz singer since I was 15. I go out and sing, and I write my own music. So I do my music and I do my English as well. I need something to fall back on.
"And I'll keep that up 'til I'm number one in the charts!"
