A MAN has been arrested by police trying to return a stolen diamond ring to its owner.
The ring was offered to pawnbrokers on Bradshawgate, Leigh on February 23 but was later handed over to police in the belief that it had been stolen.

It is a gold solitaire ring and is worth a large amount of money. There is an inscription on the inside of the ring.
After a search through crimes in the area and a previous appeal in the local media, officers have not been able to trace the owner.

Police Constable Stephen Marsden of the Leigh Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "The ring has a large solitaire and is probably worth quite a lot of money, but I believe it may be worth more in sentimental value to the person who had this stolen.
"The inscription is very unique and only something the owner would know, so if you have recently had a gold diamond solitaire ring stolen, please get in touch."

A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Anyone who believes the ring to be theirs should call police on 0161 856 7225 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
