A GRATEFUL mum from Leigh presented a cheque to a charity that saved her daughter's life after a horrific accident.
Leigh Inner Wheel club president Dorothy Hilton was proud to hand over £1000 to the North West Air Ambulance last night on behalf of her group.
Today (Wed 30th Apr) is exactly two years to the day since her daughter, Tracey Williams, was crushed after being thrown off her horse while out riding with her son Jack, now 11, in a remote field up in the Lake District.
She was trampled by another horse and could have died from her injuries had it not been for the versatility of the air ambulance, which was able to take her to hospital in the critical "golden hour" following the accident.
Mum Tracey was at The Royal Lancaster Hospital where she spent 10 days recovering, five of which were in the high-dependency unit, after suffering four broken ribs and a torn lung.
The 41-year-old, who lives in Hilary Avenue in Lowton, has since made a great recovery and was back in the saddle just six months after the accident.
Dorothy, 66, of Hayman Avenue, said: "It's a charity that's very close to my heart in light of what happened to Tracey.
"I decided that if I was every president again this would be my charity because I think they are absolutely wonderful.
"I was so grateful to the air ambulance. You don't think about these charties and how much they do until they personally affect you."
The Inner Wheel handed the £1000 cheque to the charity chief executive Lynda Brislin at a special dinner last night.
The club have supported the air ambulance in the past and have already donated £250 raised through coffee mornings.
Lynda said: "We are very pleased to accept the donation from the Leigh Inner Wheel. It's a lot of money and we know how hard they must have worked to raise it.
"Their contribution will most definitely make a difference to someone's life. Someone will need out services today and the Inner Wheel have helped us keep flying and saving people's lives."
