The future of Leigh Genesis looks bleak after the football club was plunged into financial crisis.
The Unibond Division One North club is in turmoil after the club's main sponsor withdrew their investment.
Despite attracting former top flight coaches and players including Garry Flitcroft, Matt Jansen and Mike Quigley, club chiefs have revealed that Genesis will fold at the end of the current season if new investment can not be found.
The club is now desperately seeking sponsorship after the backer pulled out because of his own financial difficulties.
Leigh Sports Village (LSV) say they can no longer give assurances that Genesis' home fixtures will be played at the stadium next season due to the club's financial position.
Manager Garry Filtcroft said: "It's a shame because we have built a good side and we've a ground that league clubs would be proud to have. We also have a fantastic chance of going up through the play-offs this season.
"But without sponsorship or a financial backer coming, I fear for the club.
"This club has the potential and visible structure to take it right up to league football but the cold facts are that it can't be done without funding.
"I sincerely hope that there are businesses out there that can see this opportunity to work with me, Matt Jansen and Mike and help take Leigh forward."
Genesis was given a lifeline at the end of last season when manager Garry Flitcroft led a consortium to restore the club's financial stability.
But the mystery backer has now pulled the plug after failing to attract new investors to the club.
The board say they remain optimistic they will find investors to inject much needed cash into the club.
Genesis spokesman Mary Croasdale said: "We have faced issues in the past and have always overcome them. This new stadium should have been the making of the club but instead it has achieved the opposite.
"The bottom line is that this club will, with the loyalty of its player and coaches, see this season through but without serious help will not be able to continue after that."
Genesis season ticket holders have voiced anger after many of this season's home games were moved away from LSV.
The club has promised to offer refunds to season ticket holders for any fixtures not played at the state-of-the-art stadium.
Leigh Sports Village chief executive Simon Toon said: "We feel that everyone owes the investor and Garry a big thank you for their efforts this season.
"We will continue to make the stadium available in a manner that will help the club this season."
* An open meeting to discuss the future of Leigh Genesis will take place on Thursday (February 4), at 7.30pm at Leigh East Rugby Club Pavilion, at the Sports Village.
