A WALTZER-style ride was destroyed in blaze at a fairground in Leigh.
The popular fairground attraction, believed to be worth around £110,000, caught light at around 4am on Friday.

Firefighters spent around an hour tackling the blaze on the site of Leigh East ARLFC's former ground adjacent to Leigh Centurions' Hilton Park.

Crew commander Mike Callan said: "You could see the flames clearly from the Atherleigh Way bypass.
"The fire started under the actual ride its self and it looks like it had started in one of the motors. It had spread to a tank of hydraulic oil so we actually had to put it out using foam.

"The ride was quite extensively damaged and it couldn't be used again. The hydraulic pipework had been destroyed and all the motors were burned out. "The facias on the outside were also badly damaged."

The fair had recently moved on to the land and it is believed the alarm was raised by one of the travelling fair's entourage living on site.
