Car jack terror for Leigh couple

Thugs terrified a Leigh couple by threatening them with a car jack and kicking down their front door before escaping with their car.
Police today made an urgent appeal for information about the robbery which left the victims very distressed.
The incident took place at between 6.25pm and 7pm on Saturday November 1 at an address in Westrees, Leigh.


Officers were quickly on the
scene and discovered a man and a woman had been threatened and their vehicle stolen.
Two men had rung the doorbell and when the woman opened the door she was threatened by one of the men who was wielding a car jack.
They demanded the keys to her car but she managed to close and lock the door.


But the men did not give up and kicked the door through in order to steal the keys.
They drove off at speak in the victims' grey Mini Cooper parked on the driveway and were seen on Leigh Road heading towards Atherton.
The car was later found abandoned by officers on Collard Street in Atherton.


Det Con Daniel Ritchie of Wigan CID said: "This was a terrifying attack for the people involved and the victim and her husband were left incredibly shaken by what happened.
"These men caused a great amount of distress and then just abandoned the car a short time later.
"If anyone witnessed the incident or saw the car being left on Collard Street, please get in touch."


Police are also asking for any suspicious behaviour beforehand which may have been the robbers casing the area.
