A lengthy bike ride didn't faze a Leigh teenager who could barely walk this time last year after being diagnosed with bone cancer.
Organisers hoped that Callum Flynn might be able to cycle the first mile.

But the 14-year-old who learned that he had osteosarcoma on his birthday last year was determined to set an example for fellow sufferers and managed an incredible 30 miles.

Callum said: "I did the bike ride to raise money for bone cancer research and to raise awareness because lots of child-ren are getting misdiagnosed.

" I never gave up fighting for all the bone cancer patients and I never gave up because I want them to never give up fighting."

Doctors had previously put the leg pain and swelling Callum had suffered for 18 months down to growing pains and a virus.

Now, almost a year on and after surgery and intensive chemotherapy, The Bedford High School pupil is getting fitter every day and wants to raise awareness of the cancer to prevent other children being misdiagnosed.

His auntie, Maria Flynn who works at Mamas and Papas in Preston has been drafted in to help Callum launch his new fight.

Callum, Maria and her company bosses cycled more than 50 miles from Huddersfield to Preston and have now passed their target of £1000, raising £1,300.

Maria said: "I told my bosses what we were raising money for and I told them about Callum and they decided to plan this whole ride between them.

"It was an absolutely amazing day but it was so hard, the wind was so cold. Callum did so well, he didn't want to give up and he was so courageous.

"I thought he might have done the first mile but he managed to cycle about 30 miles."

Callum and Maria were also supported by Corrie star Alan Halsall who plays Tyrone. He set the cyclists off on the long journey.
