TWO distraught first-time mums-to-be from Leigh have been left without essential baby items after the sudden closure of a local babystore in a nearby town.
And the grandparents of the expected babies have been left more than £1,000 out of pocket.
Rascals Nursery World in St Helens (pictured right) closed last week, the shutters have remained down and the owners have filed for bankruptcy.
Emma Reynolds, who is due to give birth in three days, is still waiting for a pram, cot and mattress.
Her sister-in-law Angie Reynolds is due in December. She has also paid for a pram and various other pieces of equipment from the store and has not received any of them.
Angie, 23, who lives with her parents on Siddeley Street, said: "My mum didn't want to go and pick the prams up because she thought it would be bad luck and would tempt fate – look where that got us!"
Emma, 26, of Norton Avenue, said: "It's my first baby and I have been so excited. Now my stomach is just churning and I don't need this stress.
"I am just hoping that I can wait until we have sorted this out and we've managed to get our prams, baskets and baby gear.
"If I haven't got a pram by the time I'm in hospital then we will just have to use my nan's mobility scooter to carry my little baby out. This is just ridiculous.
"Why couldn't the owners have forewarned us if they were in such bad trouble?"
Julie Reynolds, 51, is Angie's mum and Emma's mother-in-law, she had been excited for her first grandchildren, now she just feels unbelievably stressed.
She said: "We were over the moon when we found out that Emma was pregnant, and then Angie, we were really looking forward to it.
"Both me and my husband, Jimmy, have been paying the whole amount off bit by bit since February. We have paid £1,162 and we have got nothing in return.
"We know the prams are in the shop, they've been paid for, we just need to get them out."
The Reynolds are among many who have complained to Trading Standards in an effort to get their purchases from Rascals' owner Sharon Patton.
Collette Rai, of Trading Standards, said: "We can confirm that the owners are filing for bankruptcy and we have received a number of calls from out of pocket customers.
"At the moment we are waiting to find out who the receivers will be and then customers will be on the creditor list.
"If you have paid with a credit card you can claim the money back from your individual credit card company.
"If you have bought goods from Rascals Nursery World and have not received them contact Consumer Direct on 0845 404 0506."
