STUDENTS at a Golborne high school were inspired by visit from a leading track and field star.

Team GB middle-distance athlete Jenny Meadows visited Golborne High School to help celebrate the school’s athletic achievements and participation at the pupils’ annual sports day presentations.

Jenny, from Abram, presented pupils with colours and half colours to recognise their abilities at taking part in sport and going on to represent the school at a higher level, while the names and achievements of all the pupils involved in sport were put up on a big screen.

She also spoke to the school’s pupils about the dedication and commitment required to reach the very top of a chosen profession and talked about how she has dealt with disappointments in her career, most notably missing out on selection for the London Olympic GB team after struggling with injuries.

She also spoke about her plans looking forward to the next Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, before spending time talking with the young people and having photographs taken.

Golborne High headteacher Dave Lythgoe said: “Jenny has visited the school before and she is an excellent motivational speaker.”
