Leigh Centurions could be without any first choice prop forwards for this Sunday's game at York.
The Centurions lost Chris Hill in the 20th minute of the bruising clash against Oldham at the weekend, and with Steve Nash undergoing surgery on Monday of this week, Ricky Bibey and Mike Morrison both still struggling for fitness, coach Ian Millward is searching for props for the second Northern Rail Cup game.

"Chris looks set to be out for a good few weeks," said Millward.

"He was in a lot of pain afterwards and we are just hopeful it is not as bad as it looked.

"It's a cruel blow, and with so many front rowers out we are going to hold 'Prop Idol' competition to see if we can get anyone else into our squad."

Millward did reveal that the Centurions had tried to sign Wigan Academy front row man, Ben Davies.

"He would benefit from first team football, and since he is a Leigh youngster, who played with Leigh East, and goes to college in Leigh, we had hoped that Wigan would help out their neighbours," added Millward.

"But then we find out they have let him go to Widnes instead. That was a real sickener for us.

"But we will be examining other options.

"There is the possibility of dual contracts with other Super League club players and that may be a way forward."

Leigh centre Adam Higson was also taken out by a high tackle in the latter stages of the game that saw his tackler put on report. But Higson seemed okay afterwards.

"He was knocked out for a spell," said Millward. "But he's a tough lad and came through. He should be okay."

The good news is that Leigh did get their first game out of the way despite the snow across the pitch, and they did pick up the win.

"The win was the important thing," added Millward. "But we were far from convincing. We spilled far too much ball, had poor completion rates and therefore put ourselves under unnecessary pressure. We have to improve if we are to achieve what we are setting out to do.

"There were the odd couple of impressive combinations with the ball, but all too often the final pass went astray. And we gave too many penalties away. But we will be working hard on getting it right for next week.

"Fortunately the hard work of the staff in getting the game played does mean we don't have to play midweek and we can concentrate on going to York on Sunday and winning."
