Leigh Centurions have signed former Leigh Miners captain Tommy Goulden from Oldham.
The 27 year old back row forward signed for Rochdale Hornets in 2006 and after two seasons there headed to Oldham where he has been one of the successes of their difficult
season.
This year he played in 30 out of a possible 37 matches and out of the 30 times he pulled on a Roughyeds jersey he figured in the starting line-up on no fewer than 28 occasions. Moreover, he ran in 15 tries and he could lay claim to being the pack's top scorer if you take into account that a lot of Danny Halliwell's 20 touchdowns were scored while he was playing in the centre.
Leigh-born, he had picked up every possible honour as an amateur, including the captaincy of BARLA Great Britain, and led the Miners to their only National Conference League Grand Final success, before he turned pro for Hornets despite considerable interest from other clubs.
The 2007 season was a relegation season for the Spotland outfit, but he still picked up the Supporters' Player of the Year Award.
A powerful forward with a tremendous work ethic, he is yet one more capture as Ian Millward puts his team together to try and win immediate promotion for next season.
Meanwhile the man currently in charge, Paul Rowley is contemplating a playing comeback at the same time as receiving a four match ban from the Rugby Football League.
Rowley has been banned from the pitch, tunnel, dug-out and dressing room areas for his side's next four matches after being found guilty of conduct prejudicial to the interests of the game and criticising a match official.
Rowley was also fined £250 for improper conduct by a RFL Tribunal and had another fine of £250 for publicly criticising a match official suspended until the end of next season.
Offer
The suspension and fine follow incidents at the end of Leigh's Co-operative Championship fixture at Gateshead Thunder on August 23 when Rowley allegedly approached referee Craig Halloran in an aggressive manner after his side's 30-24 defeat.
Rowley denied using foul and abusive language towards the referee but admitted criticising the official in the post-match press conference.
All that will have to be put into the background if he is to contemplate a comeback at the age of 34.
"I am going to undertake the pre-season training and see how I feel from there." explained Rowley, who retired two seasons ago. "I have been missing playing and feel I still have something to offer."
