Leigh Centurions coach Ian Millward intends for his side to hit the ground running for the 2010 season with four warm-up games arranged, starting with Salford City Reds at Leigh Sports Village (LSV) on December 27.
Millward said: "It's important we get some game time in for the players before our season kicks-off in February.

"We will take on a strong Salford side on December 27, then travel to Featherstone on January 4, before a home game against the Challenge Cup holders, Warrington on January 17.

"Then we have Wigan at the LSV on January 24.

"They are four tough fixtures, and the last two will be big hit outs for Warrington and Wigan as they look to get their Super League squads up to speed for their kick off.

"As far as I'm concerned it will be good for our players to have such tough games leading up to the Northern Rail Cup matches, and although the date of those fixtures has to be confirmed, I want to make sure we start the season fully prepared to take on and beat our opposition."

For the Centurions, it also offers the possibility of welcome revenue especially with such attractive visitors, who are more than happy to pay a visit to Leigh's impressive stadium.

"Salford have stated they will play their strongest side, " added Millward.

"And we will have all our fit players available. Only Ricky Bibey and James Taylor, who have undergone shoulder surgery, are likely to miss that game as I look to have them ready for the match against Warrington.

"But otherwise it will be a chance for me to look at the players and see if they can put into practice what we do on the training field, during a match.

"For the Featherstone game I will likely use those players who didn't get a big hit out against Salford, and then we will use the last two games to start to hone the side ready for the new season.

"I think we have three great games in prospect and I hope the fans will turn out to give us support in those games and when we play Wigan, one of the beneficiaries will be Wigan and Leigh Hospice."

In the meantime Leigh have issued an instruction to forward Mark Castle that he should move to Leigh if he wants to play for the club.

Injured for almost all of last season after signing from Doncaster, Castle still lives on the other side of the Pennines, which is a problem as he cannot drive.

"We feel Mark would benefit from living nearer," said Millward. "We have given him that option and it's up to him to decide about what he is doing, otherwise we may have to let him go."

Tickets for An Evening with Ian Millward are going extremely well, but can still be obtained from the club.

The event will take place on December 2 at 7.30pm and apart from a question and answer session with the Leigh coach, the new kit will be unveiled and players will also be presented with their numbered jerseys for the 2010 season.
