A YOUNG footballer has played for the Wales U15 side in recent internationals against Slovakia.
Craig Roberts, 14, of South Lane, Astley, was selected because his mum and dad Andy and Sue hail from Anglesey.
Craig, a student at Fred Longworth High School, Tyldesley, currently plays at Stockport County School of Excellence.
He also trains with
Atherton-based Alan Lord's profootball4u.com – which trains around 15 players from the Leigh area who Mr Lord feels have the potential to go far in the world of football.
Craig, a central midfielder, was spotted playing at the academy by Welsh youth manager Brian Flynn, and he was picked for both the games against Slovakia, with Wales losing the first 1-0 and winning the second 2-0.
The next matches he could be involved in will be in August, when Wales will take on the other home nations in the Victoria Shield, which will be televised on Sky Sports.
Andy said: "Craig is hoping he can get into the full Wales side once he is older. He knows that he is going to have to work hard to get there, but thanks to Alan Lord's help he is taking big steps in the right direction. We are so proud of him."
Mr Lord said: "Craig first came to us when he was 11 and he has made immense progress this season.
"He eats, drinks and sleeps football and I have never seen such dedication in a youngster. I'm confident if he continues to work hard he can have a successful professional career."
