Leigh Centurions could be fielding the same team against Sheffield Eagles this Sunday as that which won at Featherstone Rovers last week!
And that in itself is something that has not happened this season!
Coach Neil Kelly, said: "It is not possible to state categorically that will be the case, but at this stage (Tuesday) the option does seem to be there. And it is certainly something
I will be considering.
" At Featherstone I thought it was a really positive performance in very difficult conditions. It was the same for both sides of course but we mastered them much better. Obviously it is unrealistic to expect to put in a commanding display for the full eighty minutes, but apart from the first ten minutes and perhaps a spell from 65 to 75 minutes we were in total command. In those other spells our defence was tremendous and the players showed plenty of determination to hold their line.
" In previous game s against Huddersfield we had surrendered leads, hanging on for a win in the last meeting,. But this time the players showed they had learned from those experiences and this time we finished really strongly , which was pleasing to see.
" We did take a couple of knocks, but nothing that should keep players out for the weekend."
Leigh's performance was pleasing collectively, but there were individual bonuses too.
" Toa Kohe Love showed why he is such an asset." Added Kelly, " He scored arty that was difficult but made it look easy and it set the platform for us.
" I was also equally impressed with young debutant Tom Woodcock. To say he scored arty and had a hand in two others would be diminishing his contribution. It was immense with some hard drives on a day when people had to graft to make ground. He played very well indeed and I would have no hesitation in keeping him in the side if he continues to play like that."
The form of Woodcock and young Adam Higson along with others such as John Cookson has prompted Kelly to forego any opportunities to take players on loan or to look into the transfer market.
" We have good young players chomping at the bit for their opportunities and they are taking them with both hands." He said,. " I am afraid that I do not go with the Widnes philosophy of bring in loan players for a month or so. I think it gives false perspective of where the club is in real terms, does not signify development and sadly is a huge step towards becoming a feeder club for a Super League side.
" Widnes may have had a win with their loan players, but what message does it send out to the players in their development squads, and what long term future is there for the club. Daniel Anderson stated he was happy to loan his players, but he will be as they get good game time, whilst Widnes will still have to pick up their pieces when those players have gone back to Knowsley Road. It is the thin edge of the wedge to the feeder club system and do not think it is the way National One or Tow clubs should be going, if they have any ambitions."
Leigh's ambitions will be put to the test with Sheffield Eagles.
" They are a quality side with quality across s the park." Related Neil, " Brambini and Lindsay are two lively half backs and in Reid, Newlove and Woodcock they have plenty of speed, behind a very strong pack in which Mitchell and Stringer go well. It is a tough one, but we are ready for it."
Meanwhile Leigh will hear whether their Super League application will be successful on 22bnd July. The RFL have issued that as the revelation day, and the Centurions will be hoping that their excellent bid is deemed good enough to put them back in Super League as one of 14 clubs with a three year licence.
