Leigh Centurions Football Manager Darren Shaw has left Leigh Centurions for personal reasons.
That was his explanation of the events that saw him hand in his resignation on Monday afternoon, less than 24 hours after the club crashed out of the Northern Rail Cup with a 36-10 defeat at Featherstone Rovers.
" I had been pondering on my future f
or a couple of weeks, " explained Darren. " I had some personal issues that I needed to sort out and the rugby was interfering with that. I wasn't letting those issues affect my rugby though, and never gave anything less than everything I had, but that wasn't helping my whole situation.
" I decided I would have to go before the Featherstone game and Monday was the first chance to speak with the Chairman. I didn't go because of that defeat , but the time was just right for me to go, and I leave with no animosity on either side. I have always had the full support of Allan and Paul Rowley, and Arthur Thomas and I feel I leave a very strong squad. We have only lost three out of ten, and have had some horrendous injuries, so I don't think we are in a particularly bad position and am confident we will make the play-offs and push for the Grand Final
" But the first team is not the whole thing, and behind that, I feel I leave a much stronger structure to help take the club forward in years to come. We have done a lot of work with the junior sides and that will bear fruit.
" It hopefully isn't the last you will see of me in the game. I still have a strong passion and appetite for the game and look forward to the opportunity to coach again some time in the future.
" My biggest satisfaction has been the players, I love working with them and everything has been a great and a terrific learning experience.
" I just have to go at this time and wish Leigh, the players, the fans, the Board every success for the future. Whoever takes over is taking over a good squad at a great club."
